KITAS & KITAP

From limited stay to permanent residency in Indonesia

When a tourist visa is no longer enough, the KITAS limited stay permit and the KITAP permanent stay permit give you the legal foundation to live, work, invest or retire in Indonesia. We guide you through every step.

Overview

The two permits that anchor your life in Indonesia

KITAS — Kartu Izin Tinggal Terbatas — is the limited stay permit card for non-citizens working or investing in Indonesia. KITAP — Kartu Izin Tinggal Tetap — is the permanent stay permit you can graduate to once you have built a continuous track record of residency. Choosing the right KITAS category, assembling the documents and clearing each immigration stage takes precision; as a licensed Bali visa concierge we manage the whole pathway and reply within two working hours, with all-in pricing and no hidden fees.

01

KITAS required documents

Whichever category fits you, the core paperwork is consistent. You will need a passport with at least 18 months of validity, a sponsor letter from your employer or family member, a completed application form, proof of funds, recent biometric photographs, a health insurance certificate, and a police clearance from your home country. We assemble and pre-check the entire bundle with you so nothing is rejected for a missing detail.

02

KITAS application process, step by step

The process begins with sponsor preparation inside Indonesia, after which the sponsor submits the request to the Directorate General of Immigration. Once a telex visa approval is issued, you collect the visa stamp from the designated Indonesian embassy. After you arrive in Indonesia, you have 30 days to convert the visa into a physical KITAS card at the local immigration office. Total processing typically runs 14 to 21 working days. Investor applicants can read more on our investor KITAS page, and remote founders on the digital nomad KITAS page.

03

KITAP — the permanent stay permit

KITAP, Kartu Izin Tinggal Tetap, is the permanent stay permit available to non-citizens who have held continuous KITAS for at least three years (five in some categories), have been married to an Indonesian citizen for two years, were born in Indonesia as a foreign national, or are former Indonesian citizens reclaiming their status. KITAP grants residency for five years and is renewable indefinitely — the closest thing to settling permanently in Indonesia. We assess your eligibility and time your application so the transition from KITAS is seamless.
